Biography

Johny - Ján Krekáň by his real name. He was born June 2nd 1985 in Košice. He acquired his musical education at the “Primary Art School” in Košice, specialisating in playing the piano. Already at the age of seven he had his first concert. When he was nine, he accompanied a choir and an accordion ensemble of the Primary Art School. He entered a school piano competition, where he received a third prize and he also participated in various concerts for public at the Palace of Art in Košice. He improved his musical knowledge at the second degree of the Primary Art School. After successful graduation from a high school he has been studying informatics at the Technical University of Košice.

Johny’s hobbies are music, computers, hiking and history. He is a gifted musician with an absolute pitch, being called also a “Pianoman.” In his repertoire there are many pieces mostly of blues style by authors like Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, B. B. King, John Lee Hooker. Also many film melodies or popular hits transformed into piano versions sound uniquely by his performance, thanks to creativity, imagination and a great talent of this blind pianist.

Johny is a composer of instrumental music. In summer of 2006 he decided to record pieces from his personal production and to offer this first authentic demo not only to his friends, but also to his quickly enlarging audience. More than four years ago he began to hold his own stage concerts at domestic field and today he is seen at various events, and at the performance in café Veritas in Košice.

Around the end of 2007 Johny started to work and experiment on his new album which contains his first experimental piece. After it the album has gotten the name “Experimental mode.” This, so called experimental CD, was released in February 2008. Its existence was started by premiere of pieces “Lonely Pianist” and “Experimental Mode” on the 17th of February on the Lumen radio.

Around that time Johny entered the Czechoslovakian compositors´ competition GRAMODESKA 2008 (Gramo-disc 2008). In the beginning of July 2008 his piece Rapsódia (Rhapsody) became one of the winners of the vol.2 of this competition. Johny thus obtained presentation of his work in media in Czech Republic, a concert in a Great Hall in a Castle of Hradec nad Moravicí (the place where International Beethoven’s Festival of Hradec is held) and releasing of the composition in the Czech republic at a common CD and gramophone-disc of the competition GRAMODESKA 2008 (Vinylová budoucnost) winners.
